Brilliant Blues hit straps in boilover

- RENEE GODFREY

KINGSTON Blues pulled off the upset of the season, dominating the last quarter to take a 45-33 win over St LukesHealth Karana in Wednesday’s Premier League netball action.

St LukesHealth started the match on fire with Eliza Siely and Genneveve Sullivan combining beautifully in goals.

Krystel Halloran and Allison Lowe were causing Kingston’s goalies all sorts of headaches as they struggled to find any rhythm and attack as St LukesHealth shot out to a 10-goal lead. Kingston steadied late in the quarter though as St LukesHealth held a 13-7 lead at the first break.

Karen MacLean entered the match and provided some more structure to Kingston’s attack allowing it to find an easier path to goal.

Sullivan and Siely continued to control St LukesHealth’s goal circle though as St LukesHealth took a 25-20 lead into halftime.

Lowe and Halloran were turning over ball for St LukesHealth early but Kingston was working hard to claw back the margin. Olivia McGow’s speed in attack was a standout and with Sophie Visser stepping up her composure in goals St LukesHealth only held a 31-30 lead at the final break.

The last quarter was all Kingston as Emily Handley and Jennifer Hanlon shut down St LukesHealth’s attack end. And with their attacking end treasuring possession they were able to convert their opportunities as they piled on 15 goals, limiting St LukesHealth to just two goals for the quarter to take the 12-goal win.

Player of the match awarded to Handley
