Bridge crossing danger

ON the curved bridge by the bowling club just outside Margate, there is no pedestrian walkway and since the traffic has increased, people who need to cross on foot or people with a disability such as in a wheelchair are taking their lives into their own hands. It is very risky and I would have thought whoever was responsible for the design and building would have thought about a walkway. Also, I have mentioned the junction of Channel Highway and Sandfly Rd to the state authorities on many occasions because when it’s busy, which is most of the time now, drivers have trouble exiting Sandfly Rd. I was advised there is a plan, I think to change the direction of the highway, but this would not be for some time.

Empty promises

MIDWEEK it takes about 20 to 25 minutes to get over the (Old Dinosaur) Bridgewater Bridge. It took 11 boats about 25 minutes to get under the Old Dinosaur on a Sunday. How many years have the IF, as reader Rod Force observes, there are vacant metered parking spaces close to the CBD (Letters, July 25), this may be because most drivers prefer the free time in one of the three parking stations, rather than because of any problem with the meters. I think the parking app is excellent, easy to set up and use, and providing a fine-tuned costing of your stay. If the app has been set up for a car you no longer own, you then repeat the process to configure it for the new car. Even if one doesn’t like the app, what’s wrong with using a credit card or, not that dissimilar to the old meters, coins.

For the record

IT was reported in yesterday’s Mercury that greyhound trainer Russell Watts injected three of his greyhounds with testosterone prior to them racing in Launceston on March 25. This was incorrect. Mr Watts was charged with injecting the greyhounds with an injectable substance that was not identified by Tasmania’s Office of Racing Integrity.
