Paul returns as Tigers aim high

- ADAM SMITH

KEY target Michael Paul will make his return from a monthlong hamstring injury for the Tigers’ daunting trip to Lauderdale this weekend.

Paul has not played since Round 13 after suffering a recurrence of the issue against Glenorchy, his first game back after missing three matches with a similar injury.

The club brought down dual reigning premier North Launceston before its bye a fortnight ago without the bullocking forward, but his presence will be welcomed against the Bombers, who are yet to be defeated on their home turf in 2019.

Brady Rees also returns, while Lauderdale regains three stars of its own as it looks to rebound from a last-start howler against Launceston.

Concussion victims Josh McGuinness and Jake Gillbee return, as does Jeremiah Perkins from suspension.

However Nicholas Dodge will again be absent, with time now running out for the Collingwood VFL-listed forward to qualify.

“He had some tightness last week so we decided to give him another full week on the track and another full week next week before he comes back,” coach Darren Winter said.

“Then it’s either he plays next week or we put him on ice for the rest of the year. Next week’s the cut off point anyway, he’s got to play three games. If he doesn’t play next week that’s the end of the season.”

Clarence will hand a debut to Aiden Jackman for its clash against Glenorchy at Blundstone Arena, with Sam Green, Jacob Smith and Keegan Wylie also included.

Jake Cox (knee) is closing in on his return from a two-month lay-off but just failed to get through training last night.

The Pies lose important goal sneak Clinton French, replacing him with Josh Whitford.

North Hobart has made four changes for its clash against Launceston, who regain Tyson Miller at the expense of Ben Killalea.
