Unique dining on the Strip

- CHANEL KINNIBURGH

SAVOURY doughnuts served with Tasmanian smoked salmon roe and wallaby bolognese are just two of the unique dishes on the menu at the newest restaurant and bar to join the North Hobart food scene.

Lizzie & Lefroy, named after the street corner it sits on, has been booked out both weekends since it opened on July 16. The modern venue is suitable for any occasion, with a big wood fire, illuminated bar, cosy booths, lounge area and dining seating.

The restaurant menu includes a range of smaller plates, larger plates, share plates, sides and sweets. There is also a separate bar snacks menu for those craving something more casual.

Co-owner and head chef Klaa Clements, who did his apprenticeship at exclusive Melbourne Restaurant Vue de monde, described the food as “modern Australian done in a European comfort food style”.

“We wanted to make it a place where people would feel comfortable to come in and have a snack and drink, or sit and have a five or six course feast,” he said.

Front of house manager Paul Wensor said the bar was heavily stocked with popular Tasmanian spirits, beers and wines but would offer willing diners the opportunity to go “on a journey” and try something different.

“I think this is the kind of venue that was missing in North Hobart,” Mr Wensor said.

“I want to have the friendliest staff in Hobart. Every time you walk in the door someone is going to greet you with a hello, and every time you leave, they’re going to say farewell and tell you that they can’t wait to see you again.”
