Rising star on the outer

- ADAM SMITH

THREE weeks after being praised for his work on a pair of the State League’s best midfielders, Glenorchy has dropped emerging run-with player Ryan Banks-Smith.

Following a fortnight where he more than held his own matched up against Launceston’s Jobi Harper and North Hobart star Sam Darley, Banks-Smith finds himself on the outer for the Pies’ clash with Tigers this weekend.

His shock omission is one of four changes, with Richard Dilger and Nathan Blowfield also axed while Harrison Gunther (knee) is the latest Pie to be grounded for the season. Banks-Smith could yet earn a late reprieve after being named first emergency. Jaye Bowden headlines the inclusions, alongside Bayley Bester, Brodie Rowbottom and Braydon Patterson.

Tigers named Devils Lachlan Clifford and Bailey Gordon at the expense of Beau Adams and Alex Bessell, though Clifford may be required to wait another week before returning to club football.

Lauderdale regains a pair of its talented under-18s for the top-of-the-table clash against North Launceston.

Oscar Shaw and Matt McGuinness will take the field in the battle of the Bombers, with the latter replacing older brother Josh (hamstring) while Ethan Whish-Wilson was sent to the development league. North was forced into one change with James Curran unavailable because of school football commitments, with Rhyan Mansell returning.

Emerging Clarence defender Sam Green (school football) and Lachlan Borsboom (cricket) are unavailable, with Brady Hayden named to make his senior debut.

Opponent Launceston named an unchanged side.
