Kiwi ‘perfect fit’ to replace Ginn

- ADAM SMITH

AUCKLAND Cricket’s high performance manager will cross the ditch and join Cricket Tasmania as the replacement for Olympic rower Drew Ginn.

Simon Insley will begin his new role with the Tigers in October after Ginn was appointed executive general manager of high performance at Cricket Australia in June.

Insley, who graduated as a physiotherapist in the United Kingdom, has spent the past seven years working across cricket in New Zealand, including roles with the Auckland Aces (team manager) before being promoted.

In the past 12 months he has been part of the team management group for New Zealand Cricket during tours of the country’s A side through the UAE and Pakistan, as well as most recently with the Black Caps during their Cricket World Cup campaign.

“I’ve been a keen follower of the Cricket Tasmania high performance program for a few years now, and I’m excited to be joining the team,” Insley said. “Their women’s and men’s programs, through both the Tasmanian Tigers and Hobart Hurricanes, are held in such high regard that the opportunity to take it on was too good to pass up.”

CT chief Nick Cummins said Insley was a perfect fit.

“We’ve worked closely with Simon through our partnership with Auckland Cricket over the past two years, and have admired his professional approach and preparedness to innovate,” Cummins said.

“His recent role with the New Zealand national team at the Cricket World Cup demonstrates the regard he is held in within the international cricket community.”
