Tune in to classical

- CHANEL KINNIBURGH

TRIO Cavallaro will put on an innovative classical music performance at Scots Memorial Church tomorrow night in their only Tasmanian concert for the year.

Soprano Petah CavallaroChapman, violinist Khalida De Ridder and guitarist Simon Thielke were signed by leading Italian classical music label, Stradivarius, in June.

Ms Cavallaro-Chapman said the hour-long concert would give the audience a taste of what’s to come when their self-titled debut album, recorded in Hobart, is released later this year.

“We will talk about the pieces before we perform them,” she said. “Even opera that was written 400 years ago remains relatable today.

“There’s stories about love, loss and happiness.”

Mr Thielke, of Kingston, said the performance would include operatic arias arranged for a chamber music setting, as well as solo and duo instrumental works.

“We take whole-orchestra pieces and boil them down for just a violin and a guitar,” he said. “Classical music is for everyone. Some people think it’s a stuck-up thing but it’s actually not, and in our concerts, we have people who have never ever seen anything like it.”

Adult tickets cost $22 and a group of five can attend for $80. The concert is free for anyone aged under 18.

“Getting kids to come in and listen to classical music is our priority,” Ms De Ridder, also of Kingston, added.

The concert will kick off at 7.30pm tomorrow. For tickets visit: www.eventbrite.com.au/ e/trio-cavallaro-tickets65888760055
