ANALYSIS of the much-vaunted City Deal concludes that this is a “stinker of a deal” that needs rethinking if Hobart is to be transforme­d (“Let’s salvage the City Deal”, Editorial, August 28). A priority that needs to be addressed to continue the transforma­tion of Hobart into a vibrant city, and has particular relevance for North Hobart, is parking. As a long-term resident of the area, I observe the increasing lack of parking as more people are attracted to the area. I hear the comments of frustrated drivers who have driven around and around searching for an elusive parking place. I notice UberEats drivers waiting in desirable parking spots. North

Umpire call protocol

TIM Paine made a bad call, under the extreme pressure which affected all concerned, but let’s put this in perspectiv­e and not condemn him.

Justin Langer needs to develop a clear protocol for reviewing umpire decisions, and instil it into the whole team.

I suggest for the fielding team it would include that the captain must never signal to the umpire until after five seconds have elapsed and at least two others in the team have had input: bowler, senior player at mid-off and if necessary wicketkeep­er. If

Keep clear

HOLD your horses (“Do our bit, plant a tree”, Letters, August 26)! I am a Rosetta daily walker who has to battle trees and shrubs that have encroached onto what little skinny footpaths are available to me and the dog. Where are the rights of the walkers and amblers? Yep, folks certainly get all excited about planting on nature strips but give some thought to those of us who want and need a daily walk to keep us fit and healthy whilst out greeting all the locals — humans and dogs. Certainly from my front door, I see hills of trees, as in most of Tasmania.
