OFFERING more parking in North Hobart will simply invite more people to drive, and will increase the traffic on all the streets leading there, through North and West Hobart. Other ways to manage demand should be considered. People who would prefer to ride to dinner and a movie if the roads were safer would be encouraged by a protected bikeway along Elizabeth St and some good-quality bike

Fun, not fumes

EVERY study in every city in the world indicates that decreasing the number of cars in a shopping precinct results in increased visitation and spending. This is because people feel safe and comfortabl­e, and strolling, browsing and using the street is Police crack down on illegal parking in North Hobart Here’s a tip: Reverse INTO your driveway, not out of it. AFTER enjoying a lovely Sunday lunch at a top-notch Greek establishm­ent, I came out to a nasty surprise, a $42 fine from Hobart City Council. But wait! I paid for two hours parking with my credit card. Unfortunat­ely, the HCC’s clever meters aren’t clever enough to confirm or deny the payment. Good one, Hobart City Council! When are you going to make a decision on these abominable meters?

Shuffling off
