Level with us on funding
I THINK it is time for the State Government to level with the electorate about state and federal funding, how much have we got and how much are we short. Our mainland counterparts have long complained about Tasmania getting a bigger slice of the pie than deserved. It is time to recognise our place in the world and that living in Tasmania is a personal choice, warts and all.
It is obvious that we cannot afford all the items on our wish list and if we want them all, let’s face up to a state-based tax which in particular ensures visitors, international students and developers meet their obligations in supporting Tasmanians and their way of life. If we want more we need to step up and pay for it. Government should also take a razor to those things we can’t afford, like propping up professional sport. Funding essentials should take first priority. them and will always push the envelope while others will blindly follow knowing it is illegal. Police and councils need to rigorously enforce parking regulations, otherwise the so-called tradition will continue unchecked to the detriment of many. ONCE again the government of our state has shown how out of touch it is from reality by cutting back teachers, nurses hours, and ignoring the chaos that our traffic problem has become beggars belief. Am I wrong in the knowledge that Bob Clifford offered to build ferries and run them on the Derwent or is that a fact that would alleviate some of our traffic woes. Stuck in Hobart for some time due to an accident last week leads one to believe that the Government is throwing hands in the air and putting these problems in the too-hard basket.
