Move key to Rogic’s national future

- EMMA KEMP

TOM Rogic is no guarantee for next month’s World Cup qualifier against Jordan, with his Socceroos selection hinging on crucial but elusive game time with Celtic.

It comes as figures in the game are split on whether Australia’s star playmaker should stay in the Scottish Premiership or try his hand elsewhere in Europe.

Rogic sat out the September and October international windows as part of his gradual return from an injury-plagued season that culminated in a knee operation, and was given permission to use the time to get married.

He’s played a total 119 minutes for Celtic since returning from surgery, including scoring during a 90-minute shift in last month’s 5-0 Scottish League Cup win over Partick Thistle.

Since then manager Neil Lennon has left the 26-yearold on the bench or omitted him from the matchday squad altogether.

While Rogic is contracted until 2023 after signing a fiveyear extension last year, his former Central Coast Mariners assistant coach Phil Moss believes the gifted No.10 could be at a crossroads.

“I must admit I was a little bit disappointed when Tommy re-signed at Celtic,” Moss said.

“I thought that would've been a good time for him to move. I love him to death. What a footballer. Great guy, beautiful family. But purely from a football perspective, I would like to see him playing in one of Europe’s big leagues and proving he's a 90-minute playmaker. I don't think he's there yet. Do I think he's got it in him? Absolutely.”
