Mercury (Hobart)

Band back with best

- PATRICK GEE

GRINSPOON have been rocking stages across Australia and abroad since 1995, and front man Phil Jamieson says the band hasn’t slowed down.

The alternative rock fourpiece will bring their best for their sold-out Hobart show at the Odeon Theatre today as part of the Chemical Hearts national tour.

It follows the release of the ARIA Award-winning group’s Chemical Hearts (Best Of) compilation record, released on vinyl this month.

The band burst onto the alternative music scene in 1995, taking out the first ever Triple-J Unearthed competition and releasing their debut self-titled EP.

They are known for hits including Hard Act to Follow, Chemical Heart, Lost Control, No Reason, More Than You Are, Just Ace and Champion.

Grinspoon went into hiatus in 2013, but returned to touring last year in celebration of the 20th anniversary and rerelease of their debut album.

“When the opportunity came back to tour this band again, I wanted to make people’s memories of it be better than the original,” Jamieson told the Mercury.

“I just wanted to be conscious of delivering a really good show and having a sense of gratitude that we were able to do it and not take it for granted.

“[The band is] really grateful for the opportunity and that people are coming in to see us and that we’ve had this career. We just want to make every show better.”

Jamieson said the band had created a record and a set that would appeal to fans who found the band at different stages of their career.

Grinspoon will be supported by The Hard Aches, The Gooch Palms and Bugs.

Doors open at 7pm.
