Inevitable shapes up well for Eagle

- PETER STAPLES

A TRACK gallop at Goulburn tomorrow morning should tell trainer Scott Brunton if he has his stable star The Inevitable in top shape to tackle the $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill on Saturday week.

Brunton says the turf track gallop is crucial to The Inevitable’s preparation leading up to what is the pint-sized gelding’s biggest test.

The Inevitable has remained in NSW after winning the $500,000 Silver Eagle at Randwick (1300m) at what was his first start the reverse (clockwise) way of going last Saturday week.

The stable received the best news yesterday when jockey Nash Rawiller, who rode the horse last start, confirmed he will ride The Inevitable in the Golden Eagle. Brunton said

The Inevitable was in great shape and he is looking forward to seeing how he strides out in tomorrow’s gallop.

“I can’t fault the horse since his Silver Eagle win and this gallop on Thursday is hopefully all he’ll need to clean him up for the Golden Eagle,” Brunton said.

“We are staying at Moss Vale and the property where he is stabled is something else.

“We chose this place because it is out of the way and is a lot like what he has at home

— a real country atmosphere.”

The Inevitable won first-up at Flemington over 1000m on a heavy track in August and a month later he stepped out at Moonee Valley in a Listed race over 1200m and donkey-licked his opposition, winning by four lengths without being fully extended with Craig Williams aboard. “His latest win was his best effort and if he can win the Golden Eagle it will change our lives.”

The Golden Eagle will be run over 1500m at Rosehill on

November 2 in which The Inevitable is fourth favourite at $5.50 behind Arcadia Queen, Brutal ($4) and Classique Legend ($5). But there is a query on Arcadia Queen taking her place in the field after a disappointing 11th of 12 in the Everest last Saturday.

One of Australia’s leading TV presenters, journalist Neil Kearney, will travel to Moss Vale tomorrow to produce a special feature for racing.com on The Inevitable as he prepares for the race of his life.
