Teen run machine in for CTPL Lightning

LINDISFARNE promoted teen tyro Tom McGann for its top-of-the-ladder CTPL twoday clash with South HobartSandy Bay at Queenborough today with the hard-hitting bat fresh into the team from Tasmanian under-17 duties.

Lightning coach Matt Wilkie said with Ben McDermott away with the Australian T20 team and opener Charlie Wakim playing for the Tigers in their Sheffield Shield game against Victoria at Blundstone Arena, it was time to let McGann loose in first grade.

“Tom’s been away with the state under-17s, and he’s made a couple of good scores in second grade, so he comes in with good form,” Wilkie said.

“He’s an aggressive batter and likes to play his shots, so hopefully he gets the opportunity to get in and play that way.”

Lindisfarne is undefeated on top of the ladder after the first four rounds, with South Hobart-Sandy Bay the best of the rest, holding second narrowly from North Hobart, Kingborough and Clarence.

“We’ve had some exceptional batting so far with different guys like Ben McDermott, Mac Wright and Charlie Wakim making big runs,” Wilkie said. “Last week we bowled really well after not making a very big total so we seem to be able to do it really well with one of the other.

“To have a great start sets us up for later in the season. Hopefully we continue to put good performances together.”

Clarence is at home to University, Glenorchy plays New Town at KGV, and Kingborough travels to Launceston to take on Greater Northern.
