Powerful showing from flag favourite

KINGBOROUG­H maintained top position and outright premiershi­p favouritis­m when it beat for second-placed Sandy Bay by 21 shots in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

The game was a twilight fundraiser game organised by Bryce Guy to support the bushfire relief fund and raised more than $1000.

Jason Fowler and his rink of Jarrod Long, Shane Garth and Graeme Walker played exceptiona­l bowls to defeat Keegan Booth by 21 shots. Will Coad continued on his winning way with a solid seven-shot win over Bryce Guy. In an epic battle with 18 ends decided by one shot and the other three by just two shots each, Andrew Norris defeated David McLean by four shots and Ryan McCoull beat Ryan Guy by three shots.

In a nailbiting contest Brighton defeated Buckingham by one shot. Josh Tyrell was on fire early and raced to a 16-shot lead at the break against Isaac Maughan before winning by 13. Grant Wakefield beat Todd Oakley by two.

Buckingham won on the other two rinks. Andrew Chamberlai­n continued his recent great form defeating Greg Fehlberg by nine shots and Michael Taylor defeated Rick Limbrick by four.

Glenorchy Rodman had a comfortabl­e 33-shot win over New Norfolk thanks mainly to Steve Clifford who played well to defeat Barry Bone by 24 shots. Cam Tegg overcame an early scare from Wayne Lampkin to win by 10 shots. In a seesawing encounter on a tough rink Josh Baker, with Shane Baker leading well, overcame Greg Kingston by five shots.

Rosny Park defeated Dover RSL by 22. John McKibben beat Chris Norris by 16 shots and David Genford was too good for Cameron Norris winning by 10. Mick Sweeney picked up two shots on the final end to salvage a draw against Roger Dale.

Howrah won its first game of the season defeating Beltana by eight shots. Bill Butler defeated Barrie Cranwell by 13 shots and John Sutcliffe beat Shane Young by two shots. Beltana won on the other two rinks, with Steve Midson defeating Ross Brokate Mick Coppleman beating Peter Jenkins.
