Man shot in a wild weekend
A SHOOTING during a family argument and a fight between groups at a Launceston park kept Northern Tasmanian police busy on Saturday night.
Police attended an address on Lilydale Rd in Underwood on Saturday evening where a man was shot in the arm.
Acting Inspector Mel Groves from Launceston Police said the incident happened at a rural property.
“During an argument between family members a 35year-old man from Karoola was shot in the right forearm.
“This injury was non-life threatening and the man has had surgery at the Launceston General Hospital,” she said.
A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with wounding, firearm and drug offences after the incident.
The man has been detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today.
Also on Saturday night police responded to an incident in Launceston which resulted in a woman’s nose being broken in an alleged assault at a public park.
Police said a large family had been gathered at the Tailrace Park Riverside.
Shortly before 8pm a 28year-old woman who was four months pregnant was allegedly assaulted.
Another woman was reported to have been pushing and harassing young children.
Acting Inspector Groves said there was an altercation between their children.
A 36-year-old woman was later arrested and charged with assault in relation to the altercation.
She was bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on April 1.
