Olympians reunite for charity brekkie
KATHY Foster, Dana Faletic and Elizabeth Jack all have more in common than being Olympians.
Two-time Olympic rower Ms Faletic said she was taught a love of numbers by Mrs Foster in a New Norfolk High School maths class.
Mrs Foster, a 1984 Olympic basketballer, said she used to play on the trampoline at 1976 Olympic diver Ms Jack’s house and has taught her daughters at Fahan School.
The three women will cross paths again on the International Women’s Day Breakfast panel in March.
“It’s always nice to get back together to either reminisce or have a bit of a laugh, or acknowledge (our) massive achievements,” Ms Jack said.
This year’s breakfast will celebrate female Olympians,
with wheelchair track and road Paralympian Louise Sauvage joining the lineup to highlight the women who Ms Jack dubbed the “unsung heroes” of sport.
“They’re not out there beating their chest and telling everyone how great they are, they just get on and do what they have to do,” she said.
Ms Faletic said she also wanted to address Australians’ attitudes towards AFLW, while Mrs Foster was interested in advancing TV coverage for women’s basketball. Ms Jack said female representation on sporting boards and equal prize money were issues she was passionate about.
The breakfast is on March 11 at Wrest Point. Tickets are $70 and proceeds go towards medical research in Tasmania. Visit rrhresearchfoundation.org or phone 6166 1319.
