Topsy-turvy bowls round

UPSETS were the order of the day in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday with four of the top five sides being beaten by their less-fancied opponents.

Glenorchy Rodman was the only top team that recorded a win and in doing so all but guaranteed itself a top-two finish at the end of the season.

Glenorchy Rodman recorded a 51-shot win against Howrah. Cam Tegg defeated Jack Steele by 23 shots. With the game tied 12-all after 15 ends Josh Baker picked up 14 shots to three over the last six ends to record a solid 11-shot win against Peter Jenkins.

Luke Turner defeated John Sutcliffe by eight shots after leading by 19 shots after 13 ends and Steve Clifford came from behind to defeat Bill Butler by nine shots.

Dover RSL surprised premiershi­p favourites Kingboroug­h winning by five shots.

Jarrah Allan defeated Jason Fowler by 13 shots and Roger Dale beat Ryan Guy by 11 shots. Kingboroug­h won on the other two rinks. David had a field day against Brad Carver and led from start to finish, winning by 17 shots. Will Coad had a close battle with Ben Dayton winning by two.

Brighton lost to eighthplac­ed New Norfolk by 18 shots. Wayne Lampkin defeated Greg Fehlberg by 14, Kerry Hill beat Grant Wakefield by three and Anthony Briggs finished two in front of Tony Bartninkai­tis. Brighton secured two pennant points with Ricky Limbrick defeating Barry Bone by one shot.

Beltana jumped out of the gates against Rosny Park and was never headed winning by 13 shots. Shane Young raced to a 10-shot lead against Peter Bannister, eventually winning by 12. Mick Coppleman defeated Mick Sweeney by one shot and Steve Midson beat John McKibben by the same margin. Rosny Park picked up two points with David Genford getting two shots on the last end to defeat Alex McCoull by one shot.

In another upset, Buckingham defeated Sandy Bay by 21 shots. Isaac Maughan totally dominated the first 10 ends against Ryan McCoull and raced to a 12-shot lead, eventually winning by 14. Todd Oakley continued his good form defeating Josh Lording by 11 shots. Sandy Bay won on the other two rinks. A red-hot Bryce Guy defeated Michael Taylor by three shots and Darren Beattie narrowly beat Alvin Cooke by one.
