Trinder placing faith in dynamo Silkstone

- PETER STAPLES

TRAINER Adam Trinder takes a strong team to the meeting in Launceston tonight with former Victorian Silkstone one of his best winning chances on the eightevent program.

Silkstone made an impressive Tasmanian debut on Hobart Cup day scoring by a narrow margin in a strong Class 3 handicap over 1200m.

“Silkstone was a good first-up winner for the stable in Hobart on Cup day and he backed up with a solid second in Launceston, beaten a narrow margin, and then he was beaten inside a length last start in Launceston in a strong benchmark race two weeks ago,” Trinder said. “I’m confident Silkstone has found the right race to jump back into the winner’s circle.”

The astute trainer also expects a forward showing from his lightly raced two-year-old Warrior Prince in race two.

Warrior Prince made an impressive debut in finishing a close second to Le Cadeau in the 2YO Magic Millions Classic late last month.

Trinder said Warrior Prince will more than likely roll forward from his wide gate tonight and expects him to be very competitive.

Victorian jockey Anthony Darmanin will partner Warrior Prince owing to the rider electing to make Tasmania his home until the coronavirus restrictions are over.

Darmanin rode Mystic Journey at Moonee Valley last Friday night and straight after the race he was rushed to the Melbourne airport to catch the last flight to Hobart to arrive inside the midnight curfew that the State Government put in place to officially signal the closure of Tasmania’s borders. Darmanin drove to Devonport the next morning and started riding trackwork for the Trinder stable on Monday.

“Anthony [Darmanin] started riding work for us on

Monday and he will continue to ride for the stable for the foreseeable future.”

He saddles up first-starter The Risk Factor in the 3YO Maiden (Race 4) and while there are others with healthy form, Trinder doesn’t discount his gelding’s winning chances.

“This horse’s trial form last prep was excellent, but his three trials at Longford this time in have been below par but I’m sure it was because of the tight Longford circuit, so I am expecting a big improvement from him and I’d be disappointed if he ran poorly.”

Trinder closes off the meeting with Kathonious in the benchmark 66 handicap over 1600m (Race 7) in which he carries top weight of 61.5kg, but is still expected to make an impact.
