Keeping our community healthy

-

THE Health and Community Services Union gives our thanks to all Tasmanian nurses on this International Nurses Day.

Today and every day, nurses do the hard, important work of keeping our communities healthy.

Now, more than ever in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, nurses deserve our sincerest thanks and recognition for what they do.

Whether working in a public hospital or private health, in aged care or in general practice, each and every nurse plays a vital role.

Nurses get out of bed each day and night and place themselves on the frontline of our health and community services systems. Their resolve and commitment is unquestionable. They give up holidays, sleep, time with their families and risk their own health to be of service to others.

Days like this one also give us the opportunity to recognise the commitment of all health and community services workers across our state, whose lives have changed significantly in the past few months, and who continue to give their all to caring for those around them.

We look up to all those workers who are on the frontlines, who go to work to face the COVID-19 crisis every day and do not flinch.

The work of supporting and caring for others in our community has always been important.

Today and all days, we applaud every worker who dedicates their days and nights to this difficult, essential and rewarding work.

While health and community services workers support and care for others, our union cares for them.

The Health and Community Services Union is Tasmania’s largest and most progressive union, with more than 8000 members right across Tasmania.

We have proudly stood by workers across health and community services for more than 100 years.

Members of our union are health workers in public and private health. They care for older Australians and support people with disabilities.

And, like each one of our members, we care for our community every day.

We don’t believe that simply giving thanks is enough. We believe in making real, meaningful improvements to our members’ working lives.

We advocate for our members’ rights at work, for

AN ADVERTISING FEATURE constant improvements in wages and conditions, and we are always right beside our members advocating for better services, better staffing and better funding.

With offices in Launceston, Devonport and Hobart, we have staff around the state who are here to assist our members with workplace matters. If you work in health and community services, our highly trained and experienced staff are here to assist you whenever you need help, or just a little information or advice.

If you would like to do more to help, and you work in health and community services, we encourage you to join us. While you care for others, we are here to care for you. Together, we can all make a difference.

Today, we pause to thank and recognise our nurses.

Today and every day, we fight for nurses and for health and community services workers across our state.
