TWO Tasmanians who previously tested positive for coronavirus have died in the past two days. The man and woman, both in their 60s and both with pre-existing serious health conditions, died at the North West Regional Hospital. Both deaths have been referred to the coroner.

TWO Tasmanians who previously tested positive to coronavirus have died in recent days — but health authorities have been unable to determine if the virus caused their deaths.

The death of a man in his 60s at the North West Regional Hospital on Sunday and the death of a woman in her 60s at the hospital yesterday have been referred to the Coroner.

Acting Director of Public Health Scott McKeown said the two people had previously tested positive for coronavirus and also had pre-existing serious health conditions.

“Until more information relating to the deaths is obtained from the Coroner, they will not be counted as coronavirus-related deaths,” Dr McKeown said.

“Tasmania’s coronavirusrelated deaths remain at 13, depending upon the outcomes of the coroner’s determination. I extend my condolences to the families and loved ones of both people.”

There were no new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Tasmania yesterday. The state’s total remains at 226 cases, with 16 cases listed as active.

Any Tasmanian with cold or flu-like symptoms is encouraged to contact their GP or call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 for testing.
