Movie: Fury 7MATE, 8.30pm, MA15+ (2014)

This World War II film starring Brad Pitt can pride itself on being a grittily realistic, compelling and sometimes punishing film about the realities of war and what it can do to the souls of ordinary men. As the Allies make their final push in the European theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and its five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, and with a rookie soldier in their crew, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their attempt to stop the Nazis. Be prepared for confronting scenes, with an emphasis laid on the horrors of war. Also stars Logan Lerman, Shia LeBeouf, Michael Peña and Jon Bernthal.

The Goldbergs SEVEN, 11.30pm

You might not have heard of it but this US sitcom series is still going strong after first projecting into American lounge rooms in 2013. Patton Oswalt narrates the weekly adventures of the Goldberg family in “1980-something” Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. In this week’s season seven premiere, Erica (Hayley Orrantia) and Barry (Troy Gentile) are preparing to head off to college, so mum Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey, pictured) insists the family should take a trip to Disneyland. Meanwhile, Erica is worried Geoff (Sam Lerner) has some bad news about their relationship when he says they “need to talk”. It won’t blow your socks off, but The Goldbergs is good fun.
