Concept store is turning heads
LUC. DESIGN is moving! The furniture and homewares store LUC. Design has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading concept stores.
The store has been the winner of numerous awards, including being recognised at the GIA Awards in Chicago, for Global Visual Merchandising excellence, and has gone from strength to strength since opening in 2013.
The latest news from LUC. Design is its relocation to the much-covetable retail space – Walch’s Building at 130 Macquarie St, Hobart.
Lucy Given – LUC’s owner and 2019 Tasmanian Small Business winner at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards – is keen to reopen after being closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We closed our doors on March 16 this year and, although we have had good sales through our online store, there is nothing like having contact and conversations with our customers – we have missed the interaction,” says Lucy.
“I am proud to say we had enough work to keep all my staff employed during this time, and we have proved the resilience of the business by opening up this new, bigger and even more beautiful space. Its’ an exciting new chapter for the store and we are thrilled to be reopening!”
LUC. Design represents some of the world’s most iconic furniture brands, including being the Tasmanian dealer for Herman Miller furniture, and represents well-recognised Danish brands including GUBI, Ferm Living, Stelton and MENU. Other European brands represented include Vitra, Artek, Alessi, Tom Dixon and Kartell.
The store also carries Australian brands Dinosaur Designs and the popular rug brand Armadillo – LUC. is one of the few select stores in Australia that carries the full sample range of all Armadillo’s quality wool floor rugs.
LUC. Design also carries a select range of fashion from Europe – simple, classic statement pieces that are not trend-driven – items you would like to have in your wardrobe season after season.
The new store is the culmination of much hard work from Lucy and her team, and represents the growth of quality retail in an economic climate of store closures and poor retail sales from bigger brands.
The store’s reputation has continued to flourish during these challenging retail times.
Lucy says “I have achieved an environment where my staff and the store’s presentation enable customers to feel relaxed and inspired.
“I was very determined that we (as a team) present as approachable, accommodating and friendly. Traditionally, high-end design stores have a feeling of intimidation – I have been determined to change that preconception.
“We are a ‘good-news’ story about retail and we hope this new store inspires people to change their buying habits in line with our philosophy of ‘buy once, buy well’.
“There has never been a more significant time to place importance on the things you buy and have resonance with your surroundings in your home. We inspire our customers to live by this and hopefully buy like that.”
