Missing man’s body found

-

SEARCH teams have located the body of missing 77-yearold man Robert Lucas at Primrose Sands.

His body was found by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew about 10.30am on Friday after searches began about 1pm on Thursday.

A major land and air search was conducted by the Tasmania Fire Service, State Emergency Service volunteers and Tasmania Police before the body was located in scrub just off Primrose Sands Road.

Tasmania Police has said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Lucas was last seen on Tuesday, with concerns growing on Wednesday when he failed to attend a medical appointment.

East Coast Division Inspector Peter Harriss said the death was a “tragic situation”.

“I have spoken with the family and, although it is tragic, they are relieved that Mr

Lucas has been found because it gives them closure,” he said.

Inspector Harriss said the search involved Sorell and Dunalley local units, drones, land search, quad bikes, trail bikes and a dive squad.

He said Mr Lucas’s body was found about 550m from his residence.

“We did have information from the community indicating a person who appeared to be disorientated,” he said.

“It’s unconfirmed as to whether or not it was Mr Lucas travelling in that direction.”

Inspector Harriss said a report would be prepared for the coroner. He said the tight-knit community and family could now face the aftermath of the tragedy together.
