Thank you for sharing your family’s grief

CONGRATULATIONS to Jane Burnett on bringing to attention the grief and suffering experienced by her family (“Sad truth of a long goodbye,” Talking Point, July 10).

It is a most heartwrenching story and so well articulated, describing a set of circumstances so many families now endure. Jane’s description of her mother’s suffering and the grief experienced by her and her sister is identical to that my three sisters and I shared as we watched our father and then our mother pass away in the same manner and after a long period of suffering.

I have a brother-in-law also now in the same situation and my sister is heartbroken. Come on our politicians, the issue of voluntary assisted dying needs some very serious consideration and now.

Thank you Jane for sharing what must have been a very difficult thing to do and for lifting the profile on this very important issue.
