Horses scarred

TO suggest the horses in the horrific trotting accident suffered minor abrasions shows little empathy for the animals (Mercury, July 10). It matters not the injuries sustained to the people involved. These animals are mentally scarred for life. The ugly side of racing where these hapless animals will be pet food should their performances wane.
