The Lauderdale Bombers are flying high — and young recruits Adrian Kalcovski and Will Poland say they intend to stay there.

LAUDERDALE’S top recruits Adrian Kalcovski and Will Poland say the Bombers will improve as the corona virus compacted season unfolds despite their 41-point statement piece against Clarence in the opening round of the TSL last Saturday.

The Bombers sit on top of the ladder as they lead the competition for deep inside 50s, midfield tackles and goals scored, while they prepare to meet Glenorchy at Lauderdale Oval in round two on Saturday. Kalcovski came to the Bombers from Collingwood’s VFL team and Poland from the TSL Tigers.

Kalcovski’s performance in the midfield earned him two votes in the TSL Player of the Year Award, right behind teammate Josh McGuinness, who was best afield.

“I was at Collingwood VFL, and that got called off, and then my local club Vermont got called off as well,” Kalcovski said. “Lauderdale contacted me and I’m happy to be here and it was good to get a win, especially after we’ve had such a long time off.”

Poland slipped into the backline but will not be restricted to his “old” role at the Tigers, where he was full-back.

“We’ve gelled really well early and we are playing a really attacking team-style of football rather than just locking down,” Poland said.

“I haven’t been here for long.

“But the way they go about it makes you think something special is brewing.”

Poland missed the Tigers’ maiden TSL final last season with an ankle injury, so he hopes to see action at the business end of the season at Lauderdale.
