NEW YORK: Kanye West has used his first presidential campaign rally to claim Kim Kardashian West almost terminated her pregnancy with the pair’s oldest child in 2012.

Speaking to a small crowd in South Carolina, the rapper said a “message from God” saved their now seven-yearold daughter, North.

“My girlfriend called me screaming, crying. I’m a rapper. And she said I’m pregnant. She was crying,” West told the gathering before explaining at the time he was in Paris working on his laptop when his screen went “black and white”.

“And God said, if you f..k with my vision I f..k with yours.”

West said Kardashian “had the pills in her hand”, adding, “I almost killed my daughter.” Following his vision from God, West says he called Kardashian and said “we’re going to have this child”.

West went on to say his late mother, Donda, had saved his life. “My Dad wanted to abort me,” he said. “There would have been no Kanye West.”

West went on to say “abortion should be legal but the option of maximum increase should be available”, and suggested “everybody who has a baby gets a million dollars or something”.

After signing the requisite paperwork and paying his fees to authorities last week, West made it official that he would be joining Donald Trump and Joe Biden on the ballot for the US election in November.

The father of four kicked off his campaign on Sunday to a small crowd in South Carolina where he appeared on stage without a face mask and spoke directly without a microphone.

Despite early support from his wife, Kim Kardashian West was not at the rally, and posted photos on Instagram celebrating a friend’s birthday during the event.

Online, the rally sparked concern for West’s mental health and bipolar disorder, which he has spoken openly about in the past.

“Kanye is a prime example of not having enough people around him that care enough to tell him the truth,” one Twitter user said.

“This shit is sad and I feel for him.”

Comedian Janelle James agreed, tweeting: “Kanye is clearly mentally ill. Even I can’t come up with a good zinger about that. It’s all sad. Shame on everybody enabling him.”

Meghan McCain, a prominent US political commentator and daughter of former presidential candidate Senator John McCain, said: “Kanye West needs serious help, not media coverage.”
