FOX ON FIRE AS SWANS SOAR
ROBBIE Fox wanted to play as many games as he could for Sydney this year and his rock-solid performance in the Swans’ seven-point thriller against Hawthorn at the SCG on Saturday should see him rack up game six when the Bloods play St Kilda at the Gabba on Saturday.
Fox, 27, was instrumental in the Swans’ back half as they ground out a 60-53 win over the Hawks on their home deck before hitting the road for consecutive games against the Saints and Collingwood at the Gabba, and after a round 11 bye will face the Giants at Optus Stadium in Perth.
As good as he was against Hawks 200-gamer Jack Gunston, who kicked three goals a week earlier, Fox’s best game was against Richmond in round six when he kept premiership Tigers Tom
Lynch and Jack Riewoldt goalless.
Riewoldt had another tough day at the office in Richmond’s 12-point loss to GWS in the grand final rematch at Giants Stadium on Friday night.
He kicked one goal, making it the fifth week in a row he has been restricted to a single major.
His opening round performance, when he kicked 3.1 in Richmond’s win over Carlton, seems a long way back.
Since the coronavirus restart, Riewoldt has gone goalless against Collingwood and Hawthorn in rounds two and three, and only kicked singles ever since.
Hugh Greenwood’s stocks continue to rise at Gold Coast.
Despite a loss to the Bulldogs, the lad from Lauderdale was second only to teammate Touk Miller for possessions, racking up 22 touches, four marks, nine tackles and six clearances. Lachie Weller (18 possessions, two marks, two clearances) was also handy in the midfield.
Kangaroos Ben Brown and Aaron Hall both kicked goals in North Melbourne’s seven-point loss to the Bulldogs.
Hall was the Kangas’ second-highest handballer (seven) behind fellow-onballer Jared Polec (12), and Brown was one of four Kangas to take five marks.
Brody Mihocek didn’t get on the scoresheet in Collingwood’s big loss against West Coast in Perth.
