inally due to open mid-year before the coronavirus pandemic hit, but Raadas managing director Richard Doedens said the opening had now been reset for early November.

“We’ve not been able to get the number of interstate workers over that we need and so things have slowed down,” he said.

“Also with restrictions still in place, it’s been slow getting goods and materials on to the site via Melbourne especially.

“There’s a bit of work to finish still – the local contractors are all working pretty hard to get it all done on time. We’re working as hard as we can, but these unavoidable delays make it challenging.”

TFE Hotels executive development manager Michael Herman previously said the approximately $46m building would also include a groundfloor restaurant, pool, gym, three levels of commercial space and conference space.

Mr Doedens said on Monday the office spaces were still being negotiated.

The restaurant will be called The Belvedere, in honour of the former Belvedere Ballroom that was on the site from the 1930s to the 1970s.

The hotel, which was designed by local firm Xsquared Architects, is expected to create 30 ongoing jobs.

On July 1, the Crowne Plaza Hobart opened to the public after several years of delays relating to flooding and the pandemic.

Still to open is Accor’s Mövenpick hotel in the Elizabeth Bus Mall, which prior to the pandemic was heading for an April opening. No announcement has been made on any rescheduled opening.

The opening of the Tasman Hobart – a Marriott hotel located at Parliament Square – has now been pushed back to March next year.
