HUNDREDS of nominations were received for Tasmania’s Best Nail Technician, which we carefully filed down to 50 talented technicians for our shortlist.
Tegan Evans, at her Glenorchy home salon Tegan’s Nails and Tanning, was one of the nail technicians who comes highly recommend by readers.
The 33-year-old initially taught herself how to do nails and netted plenty of clients, so went back to TAFE for a formal education.
“I’ve been doing nails for six-and-a-half years, I’ve always had pretty good clientele and I like to do fun, interesting things so I guess that’s what brings my clients back,” she said.
“I got to about 25 and
I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life, I got my nails done once and I really enjoyed it, so I just went from there.
“I have a big room on the side of my house with a separate entrance, so it works really well.”
Her clientele come from all walks of life, and from all ages as well – from 86 to 16, she says, but what’s trending is always consistent.
“Glitter is always everybody’s favourite and no matter what their age, they all like a little bit of bling.”
Even Ms Evans’ 86-yearold client loves loud, bright pink nails, and always gets jewels or glitter, she said.
Like most businesses, Ms Evans was hit by the coronavirus pandemic, and is slowly rebuilding her business and hopes to be able to expand to a shopfront soon.
“As corona shut us down for a little while I’m just trying to build my business back up again.
“I’ve had a work experience girl and I’ve thought about opening salons, I just have to make sure that you have enough clientele to be able to do that.
“I used to be back-to-back booked out but since coronavirus I’ve quietened down a little bit, but it’s getting back into the swing.”
