Dairy delights

-

Bream Creek Dairy is located on Tasmania’s southeast coast on a farm called Stroud. It is home to three generations of the Bignell Family and a growing artisan produce business.

Finest quality milk, cheese and wine are the first of the products to take their place among Tasmania’s premium gourmet fare.

John Bignell was 20 when he bought 70 acres at Bream Creek. On that pocket of land he nurtured and milked 12 cows. Today, some 60 years later, John’s two sons and their families operate Stroud Dairies.

The property incorporates 2000 acres of land in Bream Creek and Copping, a milking herd of 800 beautiful Friesian cows, their offspring, their handsome bulls, decades of skilled, careful breeding and countless, countless hours of hard work.

The farm has traditionally supplied milk to large multinational companies to make their fresh milk, cheese, yogurt and milk powder products.

Market pressures, global fluctuations and drought – forces that have seen the demise of many dairy farms – led to the Bignell family launching their own brand and taking back some control. The leap has paid off. The milk, cheese and wine all have a strong, loyal following thrilled to have found another locally-made product that lives up to the discerning tastes of Tasmanians.

Bream Creek Dairy is proud to be an active contributor to many local events and activities, including the famous Bream Creek Show, the Bream Creek Farmer’s Market, Rotary, Loaves and Fishes Tasmania, the Falls Festival and the Hutchins Old Boys Football Club.

Bream Creek Dairy would like to take this opportunity to thank the Tasmanian community for the valued support they have given to “the dairy by the sea”.

“Bream Creek Dairy milk is the best tasting milk I’ve ever had. It actually tastes like real milk” COCO, 13, SANDY BAY
