ELECTRIC ELIJAH FIRES UP TIGERS

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

A STAR was born at the Twin Ovals on Saturday as the Tigers took a milestone win over Clarence to post the club’s first three-game winning streak since joining the TSL in 2014.

The Tigers’ 20-year-old gun Elijah Reardon excelled in his new role as an attacking half-back, where he bamboozled the Roos with his run and gun, booting two goals streaming out of defence in the three-point heart-stopper.

Reardon won the medal as the Tigers’ Most Courageous Player in the contest for the Gadomski-Riewoldt Trophy and coach Trent Baumeler said it was reward for effort.

“The reason we put him behind the footy was because when he tucks the ball under his arm you can’t tackle him, he uses the football well, so we thought that was a good spot for him to use those strengths,” Baumeler said.

“And he put them all on show — everything he does well he was able to bring to the game.

“He played his offensive role back there, and he also won his one-on-ones, he took intercept marks or got a spoil on the ball.

“And he was able to use his athletic tricks.

“That was definitely the best game I’ve seen him play and I’m so pleased for him to see him keep growing at this level.”

Reardon’s 22 disposals included five contested possessions, four marks and a onehanded screamer, six rebound 50s and seven inside 50s for a player rating of 130.

Teammate Kieran Lovell also had 22 touches and a player rating of 117.

Teenage Clarence onballer Oliver Davis was outstanding in the middle where he won the medal as Clarence’s Most Courageous by gathering 27 possessions, 10 contested, five marks and a monster running goal for a player rating of 133.

Roos key defender Keegan Wylie was just as effective, also having 27 disposals, five marks and an impressive 16 rebound 50s for a rating of 115.

North Launceston trio Alex Lee (158), Jay Foon (132) and Josh Ponting (126) were stand-outs in the Northern Bombers’ win over Lauderdale at UTas Stadium, while the southern Bombers’ best was skipper Josh McGuinness (115).

Launceston onballer Jake Hinds’s player rating was 143 for his effort of 21 disposals, 12 marks, five clearances and a goal in the Blues’ win over North Hobart.
