Magpies have youth on side

EXPERIENCED onballer Sam Rundle is back for Glenorchy’s clash with Lauderdale under lights at KGV tomorrow but the baby Magpies will field a side packed with teenagers.

Unlike Lauderdale, which backs up after a fierce battle with North Launceston at UTas Stadium on Saturday, Glenorchy is fresh after an 11day break.

“We had a big night at training on Thursday and we come into this week fresh and looking forward to being ready for Lauderdale on Wednesday,” said Glenorchy coach Paul Kennedy.

“We will have a young team out there but we like to protect our home turf against Lauderdale and the expectation is that this is a game that we get up for as a club.”

Glenorchy’s fresh legs could be its ticket to victory.

“Traditionally at home, our running power has been really effective against a lot of teams, including Lauderdale,” Kennedy said.

“This week is about getting our young players to play roles and finding a team structure that allows them to play effectively, and putting it on our older boys to get our game going and try to exploit Lauderdale as much as we can.”

Even though captain

Brayden Webb, who has not played since injuring his knee last year, is back at training, Kennedy doubts he will play this season.

“He trains well, it’s just a matter of how he pulls (up) that’s the question with him,” Kennedy said.

“He has done some full training but we have got to make sure the knee is good to go and the risk is low, or there’s little point putting him out there.”
