$100 vouchers backup for gr abs

ANOTHER round of travel vouchers is set to be released for Tasmanians to get $100 each to spend on accommodat­ion or $50 for a tourism experience.

The state government has announced a $5m second round of its popular Holiday at Home travel voucher scheme.

The $7.5m first round was snapped up within 40 minutes of it being released with thousands of Tasmanians missing out.

The vouchers will be made available from 7 pm next Wednesday for travel from that date.

People will be able to register either via the internet or by phone.

Premier Peter Gutwein said of the 21,000 vouchers released, about 800 had already been lodged for redemption and hospitalit­y and tourism operators were reporting notice able increases in bookings.

Premier Peter Gutwein told parliament the $7.5m first round of the program had been such a success that the government was keen to repeat the deal to boost the travel industry.

The government announced the voucher scheme last month–up to $100 to use for accommodat­ion or up to $50 to use on a tourism experience. The first round was fully subscribed within 38 minutes of being released.

“I am very pleased today to announce the government will be providing another $5m for a second release of the Make Yourself at Home travel vouchers,” Mr Gutwein told parliament.

He said the vouchers would be made available from 7pm to 9pm next Wednesday for travel from that date.

They must be used by the end of November. Those who received vouchers in the first round, but have not yet used them, will be ineligible for a second voucher.

“Get online, ensure that you know what you need to do before seven o’clock next Wednesday night,” Mr Gutwein said.

“There will also be a phone hotline number for those who don’ t have internet access .”

the state has been very positive. We’re hearing of people visiting the regions, we’re hearing of people staying midweek, that attraction­s are being used – we’ve got attraction­s like the West Coast Wilderness Railway is now booked up to the middle of October.”

The state government also announced a new round of funding will be made available to event organisers through the Events Tasmania Event Ready Grant program.

Small Business, Hospitalit­y and Events Minister Sarah Courtney said that applicatio­ns were open until on November 15, with assessment on a competitiv­e basis.

Grants of up to $5000 will be made available to organisers of new or upcoming events for the remainder of 2020 through to the end of 2021, with a total of $200,000 available.
