It’ s a second chance to make yourself at home

- CAMERON WHITELEY

TASMANIANS eager to travel within the island will tonight get another opportunity to secure a slice of bonus money to put towards an intrastate trip, with a rush of website traffic expected.

The $5m second tranche of the popular Make Yourself at Home voucher scheme opens at 7pm tonight, with individuals able to register for $100 to use for accommodation and $50 for a tourism experience.

Families can access up to $550 to put towards travel activities.

It comes after 21,000 vouchers were released under the scheme’s $7.5m first stage, and the government’ s dedicated website battled to cope with significant traffic.

It took only 40 minutes for the entire funding pool to be exhausted.

This time, Tasmanians can again claim through that website, but those without digital access have the additional option of phoning a call centre on 1800 344 077 between 7 pm and 9pm.

Premier Peter Gut we in said given the popularity of the first round, it was important Tasmanians remembered it was a “first in, best dressed” process.

Mr Gutwein said Tasmanians who missed out in the first round or who received a voucher in the first round and have already travelled and redeemed their voucher for that travel, will be able to apply for a voucher in the second tranche.

He said people should only phone the call centre if they did not have internet access.

Last week, Mr Gut we in said about 800 vouchers had already been lodged for redemption from the first round and that hospitality and tourism operators across the state were reporting an uptake in bookings.
