Positive news for sprinter

Gee Gee True Story continues to impress his training team

- PETER STAPLES

TALENTED sprinter Gee Gee True Story will be given the chance to test his skills against the state’ s tops printers according to Team Wells.

Gee Gee True Story scored an impressive win in a 700metre trial at Longford on Tuesday, after which cotrainer Leon Wells outlined the short-range plan for the gelded son of Word smith.

“I expected him to trial well today and that will do him the world of good as he works towards a first-up run in the Goodwood Handicap at Elwick on Melbourne Cup day,” Wells said.

“He isa bit of an under rated sprinter this horse. He hasn’t missed a cheque in 13 starts and he’ s won six.

“We always believed he would develop into a topclass sprinter and I reckon this could be his best season .”

Gee Gee True Story (by Wordsmith out of Gee Gees Truce) won a benchmark 74 and an open handicap just before the industry was shut down because of COVID-19 restrictions, so the gelding was spelled.

He showed good speed in Tuesday’s trial to sit outside of O’Lonh Star but when rider Peter Lui asked Gee Gee True Story for an effort, he edged clear close to home to score by a half-length.

Another impressive trial winner was the John Blacker--trained Blaze Forth that won over 700 metres comfortably against strong opposition.

Blaze Forth scampered home leading throughout and hit the line almost two lengths clear of Gee Gee Caughtya with White Cliffs powering home late to finish a half-length astern. The gelding won the Conquering (1400m) last season and was very competitive in most of the other sprint and 1600metre race she contested.

Blaze Forth is likely to ignite his campaign in the Goodwood Handicap as a lead-up to the Newmarket.

The New market Handicap will be run n at Mowbray on November 25 and it is likely to boast most of the state’s best sprinters.
