Teen takes aim at title

TEEING off this Sunday at the Launceston Golf Club in Kings Meadows is the 2020 Tasmanian Women’s Stroke and Stable ford Challenge.

The new event, formerly known as the Tasmanian Business Women’s Tournament, has attracted a large, enthusiast­ic and elite field of competitor­s.

Among the favourites to take out this year’s stroke title is Tasmania Golf Club young gun Mackenzie Wilson who will be keen to place her mark on the event.

The 16-year-old will tee off in the final group at 9.30 am alongside Tasmanian golfing legend Lindy Goggin from Royal Hobart Golf Club and Devonport’s Lainie Thorn. There is sure to be some phenomenal golf with Wilson currently playing off scratch and Goggin off a handicap of two.

Other competitor­s to keep an eye on include Prospect Vale Golf Club’s Tammy Hall, Royal Hobart’s Anne Medlycott and local members Maree Couls on and Jorjah Bailey.

Of the 48 entries received, twelve will be competing in the Stable ford section with Lib by Lawson keen to put her local knowledge to the test against the best in the state.

Bridport’s Trish Nichol, Ulverstone Golf Club’s Fleur King and Toni Robson from the Launceston Golf Club will also be out to claim the Stable ford title.

THE Southern Country Boys’ and Girls’ Championsh­ips are being conducted next Tuesday at the Colebrook GolfClub.

Contenders for the boy’s title include Isaac Roberts from Riverside, Lachlan White from the Tasmania Golf Club and Royal Hobart’s Hunter Gillard.

While Hallie Meaburn of Royal Hobart, Launce st on’s Jorjah Bailey and Mackenzie Wilson from Tasmania are likely to decide the girls’ championsh­ip.

The Country Associatio­n has also introduced a nine-hole developmen­t event which will see eight keen juniors tee off at the tail of the field.
