Heath’s certain he won’t join brother Rhyce at the Roos

- REBECCA WILLIAMS

HEATH Shaw has ruled out a reunion with his brother Rhyce at North Melbourne next year after being moved on from Greater Western Sydney.

But he has not officially put a line through his AFL career just yet, saying he would have to “have a think about” any potential offers to play on at another club. After seven seasons with GWS, 34-year-old Shaw has not been offered a new contract for 2021 with the Giants.

Speculation immediately turned to the Magpies premiership player joining the Kangaroos where his older brother Rhyce is senior coach.

But Shaw emphatically ruled out a move to North Melbourne, but admitted he was not fully ready to embrace the retirement word just yet.

“I have spoken to my brother and I can categorically say that I will not be playing at the K an gas next year ,” Shaw said on S EN.

“It sounds silly. I know I said I wasn’t retiring, but it doesn’t mean that I actually want to keep playing … I don’t think the word retirement sits that well with me. Whether I play or not, I’m not sure and whether I want to play or not, I’m not sure.

“You can probably park the retirement question, but for me, whatever happens, happens and I’ m very comfortable.

“Speaking with the boys yesterday, I said either way … I was very comfortable to float off into the wilderness or, if an opportunity came by to play again, I would have to sit down and have a think about it. But right here and right now, I am pretty comfortable with where I am at .”

Shaw played 152 matches for the Giants after joining the club from Collingwood in the 2013 trade period. Describing his departure from GWS as the “best break-up” he could have had, he said he told Giants coach Leon Cameron he still felt he had more t ogive.
