The 31- year- old man is assisting police with the “suspicious” death of a 34- yearold man.

Police found the body at 2.50am Monday after receiving a distress call.

A heavy police presence remained on the scene for most of the day, including forensic specialists, the criminal investigation branch and uniformed officers.

A neighbour of the Carbeen St, Mornington complex who chose to remain anonymous said they understood drug- trafficking activity was prevalent in the area.

They also said disruption between residents and another housing complex nearby was common.

The neighbour said they had heard from other residents the dead person was said to be “a nice fellow” with a mental disability.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Davis said a car had been towed from the scene on Monday in relation to the investigation.

Police could not confirm whether the man in custody was a suspect or whether he knew the deceased person.

“That person was taken into custody as they were providing information at the time to police and have been cooperating with our inquiries and for us to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the death,” Detective Inspector Davis said.

“I would hope that we can provide the community with some further information in the coming days.”

Detective Inspector Davis thanked the community for their co- operation and said Tasmania Police would support the family in any way they could.

Anyone with information in relation to this matter is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or Bellerive CIB on 131 444.
