Brunton’s hot form continues

Trainer saddles up nine winners in two meetings

- PETER STAPLES

PREMIER trainer Scott Brunton goes into Wednesday night’s meeting in Launceston with nine wins from the past two meetings which should have punters queuing up to invest in his runners on the eight- event card.

Brunton saddled up five winners in Hobart last Sunday week and last Saturday night his good run continued with another four.

With torrential rain through the week the Mowbray track was expected to race at a heavy 8 at best, but to the surprise of most, the track not only raced like a soft 6 but it played extremely fairly with winners coming from the back and from on the speed.

Brunton started the meeting with his exciting filly Thunberg winning a 3YO maiden over 1120m.

The daughter of Squamosa- No Push Over raced attractively outside the leader, Kohima, and when jockey David Pires pushed the go button the filly forged clear and went on to win by almost four lengths.

“We’ve been patient with this filly and now that she’s won her maiden we can start to experiment,” Brunton said.

“We’ll step her up to 1400m and see how she handles that and if we get the desired result, we’ll push on to a race like the Thousand Guineas.”

I Remember You was also an impressive winner from

the Brunton stable, scoring effortlessly in a benchmark 74 handicap over 1220m.

It was her last start in Tasmania as she is soon to be sold at auction and might have one more start in Melbourne before she heads to the sale ring. I Remember You is a former Queenslander that made her way to Brunton’s stable late last year.

She won at her first two

starts for Brunton and at her next outing she ran home well to finish third in the Group 3 Vamos Stakes before heading to Melbourne for a win at Sandown.

His consistent mare Runaway Girl scored another impressive win, this time in a benchmark 60 handicap over 1420m, to make it three wins from her past four starts.

Runaway Girl has had

only seven starts for Brunton for three wins and as many seconds and a third.

“This mare can be a bit cantankerous, but David Pires has worked her out and her record since she’s been with us speaks for itself.”

The stable rounded out the night with a win from Ruettiger that came from well back to win the TTC Open handicap over 1420m.
