BOSCOTT IN THE CLEAR

- ADAM SMITH

BOOM Cygnet recruit Thor Boscott is free to play in Saturday’s blockbuster SFL grand final after the league sensationally withdrew his roughconduct charge.

Boscott was suspended for a dangerous tackle in the Port’s thrilling semi- final victory against Huonville after the Lions lodged a complaint days after the match.

He was offered a two- match ban, reduced to one with a guilty plea — which was instantly rejected.

The case was set to be heard tonight until the SFL issued a statement saying the star goalkicking midfielder would no longer have a case to answer.

“The Southern Football League ( SFL) executive have withdrawn the rough- conduct charges pertaining to Cygnet Football Club player, Thor Boscott,” the statement said.

“The decision was made by the SFL following consultation with both clubs demonstrated a desire from all parties to have the case withdrawn.

“As such, under 2.5( b) of the state and territory tribunal guidelines, the SFL has made the decision to withdraw the charge.

“Thor Boscott will be available for selection for Saturday’s grand final.”

Cygnet had to post a request on its Facebook page last week after news of Boscott’s suspension became public, adding further fuel to an already spicy Huon rivalry.

“Our club understands this is a very emotive issue but we ask all our supporters to treat everyone with respect and let the process take its course,” the message said.
