PHOENIX STUNNED AS KINGS MAKE AS TAND

THE 2020 SBL campaign hasn’t gone to plan for the Kingboroug­h-Huon women but the side has no intentions of limping into the off season —as highlighte­d in Round 17.

The Kings, who have shown flashes of brilliance but have struggled for consistenc­y, proved they will be no pushover in the last few rounds by toppling Phoenix onn Wednesdayn­ight.

Led by Josie Green-wood( pictured ,25 points), the Kings secured a 65-51 victory, with all eight players hitting the scoreboard.

Dimi Jaynes (20 points) again led the way for Hobart, which continues to look to find the right formula after Sharna Thompson, departed to Townsville for her WNBL stint.

Southern Wolves continued the upset theme in the later match, taking down ladderlead­ers Glenorchy Spartans 71-67.

The teams threw everything at each another all night, with the NBL1 tandem of Ellie Collins and Tayla Roberts combining for 54 points at one end of the floor for the Wolves and potent Spartans trio Kate Berry, Lilly and Sarah O’Neill (49 points combined) returning fire.

The size and experience of the Wolves proved the difference in the late stages of the last quarter.

In men’s action, Kingboroug­h-Huon Kings continued their strong form to register a c comfortabl­e 77-62 victory against the Southern Wolves.

Through the impressive leadership of BJ Radcliffe (20 points) and Izach Collins (12 points) the Wolves held sway early in the tthird period, but the hottest team in the competitio­n closed out the final 17 minutes of the game with a withering3­3-17run.

Four double-digit scorers were led by Noah Straatsma (28 points) and Elijah Pawson (17 points).

The Kings now sit two games back in third position.

Completing the evening’s action, Hobart Phoenix defeated Grenadiers 78-65 to asc end to the top of the ladder.
