Perfection ontheline

DESPITE not shaping up to be the title-decider many hoped for, today’s NPL clash between the Glenorchy Knights and Devonport Strikers will still be one to watch.

The Strikers have already claimed the 2020 NPL title and look to become the first team togo undefeated through a league campaign since the competition’s inception in 2013. In their way stand the second-placed Glenorchy Knights, boa sting the league’ s most potent attack and the second strongest defence( behind only the champions ).

“We’ve conceded one more (goal) than Devonport this season,” said Knights coach James Sherman.

“They’ve done fantastically well defensively this year but I’d like to think that we have also, and we’ ve gone under the radar with that.

“We need to make sure that when we do create chances that we take them. They’ve been very strong defensively this season and chances maybe hard to come by .”.

The season continues beyond today for the Knights, who have second spot on the league table sown up, as they prepare for a Lakoseljac Cup semi-final nextweekend.

Regardless, Sherman insists there is no chance he will rest players to prepare for that clash with South Hobart.

“I’m a believer in that momentum is a big thing ,” he said.

“We’re not too focused on that South Hobart fixture because we’ ve got to get through this one first. We’ll look to get through the game injury-free and suspension-free. The players will have that in the back of their minds.

“We’re looking to play well. We’re going to put out a strong side and we’ re going to go about the game in an aggressive manner and hopefully at home, we can put on a decent performance for the supporters .”

South Hobart will prepare for the cup clash with its final fixture against Riverside Olympic. The other two semi-finalists – Olympia Warriors and Launceston City – face Kingborough Lions and Clarence Zebras respectively.
