BOAK FAVOURED TO WIN THIRD TOP GONG

- SIMEON THOMAS- WILSON

TRAVIS Boak is the hot favourite to claim his third John Cahill Medal, and second in a row, after yet another fine year for the Port Adelaide veteran.

After backing up his stellar 2019 season this year, finishing runner- up in the Brownlow Medal to Brisbane’s Lachie Neale, Boak, pictured, will again be the one to beat in Port Adelaide’s best and fairest tonight.

Moved back into the midfield, the meticulous work Boak does away from the field has again paid off on the ground with another golden year from the 32- year- old.

While the former captain is the frontrunner for the John Cahill Medal, which would be his third win after 2011 and 2019, there are a bunch of other Power guns whose 2020 campaign’s will at least put them in the running.

Along with Boak, dashing defender Darcy Byrne- Jones and hulking spearhead Charlie Dixon were named in the All- Australian team.

While second- year sensation Zak Butters was named in the 40- man AllAustralian squad.

They won’t be the only Power players in the mix.

Vice- captain Ollie Wines had a fine year after returning from another shoulder injury in pre- season while Hamish Hartlett played every game this year and performed strongly.

Tom Jonas didn’t miss a beat when he took on solo captain responsibilities and the famous No. 1 guernsey, while Tom Rockliff had a strong end to the season after returning to the team following being dropped.

Karl Amon and Scott Lycett also had strong seasons for the Power.

The John Cahill Medal is decided on from votes cast by senior coach Ken Hinkley, senior assistant Michael Voss, the respective line coaches and general manager of football Chris Davies after each game.

While there won’t be any SANFL awards, after Port’s reserves team was barred from playing due to COVID concerns, other accolades for Power players tonight include the Gavin Wanganeen Medal for best young player, the Fos Williams Medal for best team man and the John McCarthy Award for service to the community.
