COOL MORE WIN WILL BRING BACK THE GOLDEN DAYS FOR STAR COLT

-

MAN of the moment Glen Boss has said boom colt Farnan could win the stallionmaking Group I Coolmore Stud Stakes by “three or four lengths”.

“Farnan is a star, I promise you ,” Boss, pictured, told Racenet .“It is as simple as this—I will ride him like the best horse in the race because he is the best horse in the race.

“If he turns up he will win by three or four lengths.

“He will win and win easy and then he will redeem himself and then all of a sudden he’s that valuable colt everyone knew he was .”

It is a big statement from the Cox Plate-winning jockey but his crystal ball has been in perfect order lately.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man and Boss has the job of resurrecting the spring of the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Golden Slipper winner.

Farnan was rated the best of his generation but the mantle has slipped during his turbulent and, at times, controversial spring campaign.

He has not raced since finishing fifth as the hot favourite in the Group 2 Run To The Rose at Rosehill when Hugh Bowman led them a merry dance, only for the colt to weaken and for Bowman to cop a suspension, which was later over turned.

Farnan then had a series of set backs that saw him miss the Roman Consul Stakes and lose his slot in The Eve rest.

Boss, who takes over from Bowman, had the benefit of being on the colt’s back when bolting to a Gosford trial win.

He is glad the trainers and Aquis pulled the pin on The Everest to target him at the Coolmore, at Flemington on Saturday, where he is the $5 second favourite to win and recapture his Golden Slipper aura.

“I’m glad they didn’t go towards The Everest, I rode him in a trial before the Everest and I can tell you he would have run very well in an Everest,” Boss said.

“But it would have been the end of his campaign.

“I’m glad they have gone down this road.”

The jockey has somewhat less confidence about his winning prospects in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes in which he rides Wendy Roche’s pizzaloving Doncaster winner Nettoyer.

Nettoyer will be backing up from finishing ninth behind Boss’s Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet.
