Warriors dominate

Men, women in a goalfest

- DAN THURLEY

THE Olympia Warriors dominated day two of the cup semi- finals yesterday as their men and women combined for a total of 13 goals in two games.

In the Lakoseljac Cup, the men ran riot over Launceston City with a 7- 0 demolition of the bottom- placed NPL side.

Elliot Hoysted had a fine game in the Warriors goal and denied the visitors twice in the early stages before his side took control.

They had to wait until the 42nd minute to find the breakthrough however, when Ben Hamlett was fouled on his way through the area which allowed Jake Vandermay to convert from the spot.

The start of the second half then became the Callum Brown show as the Warriors’ winger doubled the lead.

Brown was involved once more to make it 3- 0, and two quick- fire goals from Adam Gorrie and Declan Brown had the score at 5- 0 in the 67th minute. Matters were made worse for City when substitutes Austin Yost and Ben Curtis added to the scoreline before missing a penalty of their own as Hoysted made another fine save.

The win confirms the Warriors’ place in next week’s final where they will meet the Glenorchy Knights.

In the Women’s Statewide Cup, the Warriors enjoyed a 6- 0 victory over South Hobart.

A Mia Cane goal and a brace to Bonnie Davies had the Warriors 3- 0 up at half time. After the break it was more of the same as Davies went on to score her third in the 54th minute and her fourth just five minutes later.

Cane then converted a penalty for her second goal.

The Warriors will now Clarence Zebras in the final. face the
