R ink the difference

Dowl skips Sandy Bay to victory

THEY won on only one rink, but Sandy Bay were still too good for Sorell, winning by 16 shots in Bowls Tasmania South’ s Penn ant Division One on Thursday.

With her team of Lynn Barlow, Pat Balcombe and Helen Barnes bowling well, Chris Dowl had a convincing 23shot win over Shirley Hay. Sorell won on the other two rinks. With Robyn Leggett away, Peri Buckley skipped against Jan Cowan. Cowan played a great skips game and establishe­d an early lead, with Vicki Philp playing some fantastic shots.

Buckley stormed home, scoring nine shots on the last six ends but Cow an held onto win by four shots.

Monica Lovell defeated Yvonne Buckley by three shots. Lovell was supported well by Vicky Wakefield, Sue Seabourne and Beth Connell.

Lovell was leading by 10 shots after the 12th end, and had to withstand a fast finish from Buckley to win by three.

Claremont won its first game for the season, easily accounting for Brighton by 49 shots. Meekie Salter led throughout against Kaye Sproule, winning by 24 shots. Joy Voss defeated June Headlam by 13 shots. Maree Morgan finished strongly against

Judy Williams to win by 12 shots.

Dover RSL travelled to Kingboroug­h and came away with a good 25-shot win.

Dawn Garland set up the victory, easily defeating Greta Murray by 33 shots. Sheryl Phillips had a tight first half against Vicki Bannister but powered away after the break to win by seven shots. Leonie Price was Kingboroug­h’s only winner, defeating Sharon Delaney by 15 shots.

Rosny Park defeated Howrah by 40 shots. Gaylene Ridgeway jumped to a lead of 10 shots after just three ends against RosieG eeve sand continued on her winning way to win by 17 shots. Ailsa Milburn led all day only allowing Charon Foster to score on six ends to win by 12 shots. Jenny Suttie beat Sandra Hawks ley by 11 shots.

Buckingham travelled to Orford and came away with a seven-shot win.
