Shot at world tasting record
AN ATTEMPT on a world gintasting record will see Tasmanians sipping spirit sat six venues around the state.
With the aim to encourage gin lovers back to gin distilleries and bars Australia-wide, the Gintonica Ginormous Gin Tasting attempt will occur simultaneously on Sunday, November 22, between 3 pm and 5.30pm.
While a world record could be broken, national bragging rights are also on the line.
“The added bonus is we plan to ignite our very own Gin Ashes and knock the current world record holders — the Poms — off their perch,” said Gin toni ca’ s David Box.
More than 50 Australian venues will host tastings, aiming to break the record of 796 with more than 1500.
Myfy Kernke from Shene Estate Distillery said she couldn’t wait to host people at her family’ s Pontville venue.
“Distilleries and gin bars have been hit so hard by COVID-19. After a rough year this is a great opportunity to get out and about and be part of something special.
“We’re inviting people to come and try our Poltergeist range and during lock down we needed something stronger so we developed a new navystrength gin. Shene Estate has some significant history and heritage and we’re hoping we can make history here and breakthisrecord.”
Shene Estate cleaned up at the World Spirits Competition inMarch.
Other venues around Tasmania hosting tastings are: Killara at Richmond, Forty Spotted in Hobart, McHenry Distillery at Port Arthur, Old Kempton Distillery at Kempton and The Abel Gin Co in Launceston.
