Venue back on track

IT hasn’t been the easiest transition for the new operators of the motocross complex at Cambridge.

Soon after the group took over the lease of the site near the Hobart Airport in March, the state went into a lock down because of C OVID -19. And, when restrictions started to ease, winterrain ensured the tracks were under water for a couple of months.

But, much like the state’s rebound from the pandemic, there branded, refurbished Cambridge Ride Park has a newleaseonlife.

The park will showcase its new tracks and upgraded facilities during an open day on Saturday.

Spokesman James Bender says there is plenty to see.

Bender and fellow operators Greg Cairns, Stuart and Karen Ford and Brendon and Donna Rose have overseen a major make over of the complex.

The pro-standard main track has been revamped and had a full sprinkler system installed. New tracks include a veterans/intermediate circuit and three new loops for juniors.

Bender said their philosophy was simple.

“We want to get people back into motor cycling ,’’ he said.

“Racing has died off a bit in the past few years ... but sales of bikes are booming; you can hardly get a new bikeanywhere.

“We want to capitalise on that and provide an affordable, reliable venue

for people of all ages to come and ride ontracks.”

The ride park’s relaunch will be under the banner of the Australian Motorcyclist Association, which Bender says will make riding at the

venue more affordable. Annual AMA lic en cingis$50f or a rider or $100 for a family, meaning members don’t have to pay a daily licence on top of the park’s ride fees ($35, $30 for juniors) each time they use Cambridge.
